Well this new yr has really turned out with a bang. My database and C# class’s is going to be a lot of fun. I can feel it already. Even though the db class is technically oracle the teacher said 11 out of the 12 chapters are on T-SQL syntax. So I should be good to go with transferring that knowlegde to mysql or mssql. My first C# class was on thursday night. Man when I got home I just wanted to start coding then and their. But their is a time and place for everything. I stopped by one of my friends houses on the way home and he was trying to setup debian with samba. Poor guy. So I recommended to him that we install ubuntu snce I’m familar with it(yes I know ubuntu is based on debian but I like the more regular releases) anyway I told him I would set him up with a webdav server. And I did. It only took me less than 48hrs and now he has a webdav server. Which is great because they run windows and macs so he can use both. Plus I punched a hole through his linksys and set him up with a dynamic updating service so that they can get to this box from anywhere on the internet. All in all I’m just a little proud of my box. amazing how easy it is in linux. As for regular life. Its going great. things with Gloria are going really really good. She is really a great girl. And things at church are going really well. We shall be starting Easter musical practice this coming Sunday. Also I will be putting in a fileserver for our church probably this week too. we are going to try to use a software raid5 with linux. So its going to be a lot of fun. P.S. Plus this week at work I built my own spam/av filtering appliance(used a base image but upgraded and configured a bunch of packages myself). However the big thing is that its FreeBSD. Yes boys I took the plunge to *BSD land. And I LIKE it. Ports is awesome. Almost like gentoo just without the conf and emerge headaches.Well bed is calling. I know this was a long post but its going to be a good year. I can feel it.P.P.S. McCain won SC and Hillary won Nevada. WOW the field this yr just ain’t that great boys. Its all about how much do you want to comprimise on your beliefs? Do you value life of an unborn baby more than an immigrant? more than a terrorist? what big questions we have folks.

Well I installed FC8 on jens box and it was having problems with the davicom network card. Basically it loaded the wrong drivers yet FC thought everything was just peachy. Here is the fix.Preface: I’m not sure this bug belongs here, please reassign if neccessary. The wrong driver (‘tulip’) is loaded for Davicom ethernet cards. Apparently, Davicom is SEMI-compatible with the tulip driver, so it happens that everything appears to be functioning (it even shows up in network-admin) but it cannot get IP addresses from the router (dhcp). After several hours of hunting on google, I found out the solution here: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-linux-help/60102-newbie-cant-reach-router-internet-2.htmlto remedy it:rmmod tuliprmmod dmfemodprope dmfeI guess you need to remove the dmfe driver as well because some how the card does not get “allocated” to it, because it was presumably earlier “allocated” to the dmfe driver. lspci:0000:00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Davicom Semiconductor, Inc. 21x4x DEC-Tulip co mpatible 10/100 Ethernet (rev 40)
